There are moments in life when you zoom out far out and everything shifts. The stress, the small frustrations, the endless to-do lists… they shrink. And in their place comes something bigger. Perspective. Gratitude. Awe.
That’s the feeling behind our Evolution of the Universe print. It’s not just a visual timeline of cosmic events. It’s a reminder that your existence is extraordinary. That the universe spent 13.8 billion years getting you here. And that fact alone can change the way you see everything.
The idea for this print was born during a quiet moment with a book. I was reading Living Untethered by Michael A. Singer, and early on he wrote something simple yet profound something about how we’re tiny beings, sitting on a spinning ball of dirt, floating in the middle of a vast, mysterious universe.
You’ve probably heard ideas like that before. We all have. But that day, the words hit differently. They cut through the noise and landed in a place that felt deep and true.
And I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
How everything around us, our planet, our bodies, our thoughts, is the result of a sequence of cosmic events so intricate, so unlikely, and so perfectly balanced that it borders on the miraculous. Every atom in your body was forged inside a star. Every moment in the history of the universe had to unfold just right for you to be here today, reading this.
That realisation stayed with me. It made me want to create something that would make that wonder visible. Tangible. Something that could remind me and others of that truth on the days we forget.
At Ray of Light Prints, we don’t just make beautiful wall art. We create visual stories, artworks that combine knowledge, wisdom, and wonder in ways that help people see the world and themselves differently.
This Evolution of the Universe print was born from the desire to remember.
To remember that life is rare. That being alive at all is something we shouldn’t take for granted. That your very presence is the result of stars being born, exploding, spreading their elements, and coming together over billions of years in a way that made you possible.
I created this print as a personal anchor. For those days when life feels overwhelming, or disappointing, or flat. Because when I come home after a long day and see this image on the wall, it pulls me back. It reminds me of what really matters. That I’m alive. That I get to experience this universe. That the odds of being here are so astronomically low, it’s a miracle we often forget to notice.
This print is a visual prompt to do just that. To notice. To breathe. To marvel.
The image is designed to reflect the story of the universe, beginning with the Big Bang and expanding outward, just like space itself. The concept was influenced in part by resources like NASA’s cosmic evolution timeline, which help make the unimaginable feel real.
At the centre is a burst of light, symbolising the origin of time and energy. From there, rings radiate outward, each one representing a new phase:
One of the key visual elements is a symbolic hand, woven subtly into the design. It represents the invisible force—whatever you believe that to be—that orchestrates the unfolding of the cosmos. It could be physics, divine intelligence, probability, or pure mystery. The hand doesn’t offer answers. It invites reverence.
Altogether, the layout forms a kind of bell, symbolising the “ringing in” of the universe, the beginning of everything. It reminds us that from one spark came galaxies, oceans, emotions, music, dreams… you.
This piece pairs beautifully with our Elements of the World print, which zooms in on the 94 naturally occurring elements created by stars and found on Earth—elements that now form our bodies and all we know. Together, they tell a full-circle story: from the birth of matter to the breath in your lungs.
The text behind the image is just as important as the artwork itself.
While the visual draws you in with colour, movement, and symbolism, the text quietly teaches. It distils the entire cosmic timeline billions of years into something readable and relatable. It’s the knowledge that stays in your space, even when you’re not consciously thinking about it.
Sometimes you’ll catch a line in passing. Other times, you might sit down and take it all in. Either way, it’s always there, waiting for the moment when you need perspective, or inspiration, or simply a reminder of how far you’ve come.
The text is like a quiet friend on your wall. It doesn’t just inform, it transforms. It deepens your relationship to the artwork, to the universe, and to yourself.
Our biggest hope is that this print stirs something in you.
That it helps you rediscover your place in the cosmos, not as something small, but as something precious.
That it inspires awe, gratitude, and a kind of cosmic humility.
